McDonnell Focused On League Campaign

St Patrick's Athletic manager John McDonnell has stated that he is fully focused on the current league campaign and that is all that matters right now.

The Super Saints have been in terrific form this season and are currently top of both the eircom Premier Division and their Setanta Sports Cup group.

While rumours have circulated about McDonnell's future, he has kept focused on his job at Richmond Park and his team have been playing some excellent football this year.

The recent departure from the club of Director of Football Brian Kerr might have sent vibrations buzzing through the league, but McDonnell has always insisted that there was no miscommunication between himself and Kerr, and they both worked together for the benefit of the club.

"The presumption that Brian Kerr was picking the team or signing players might have annoyed me if I was younger," McDonnell told the Irish Mirror.

"Look, we're in the group and we knew what was going on within the club. And that just wasn't the case.

"I've heard a lot that I was going to be sacked when we lost two games in a row but now Brian has gone, if we lose the next two games there will be talk that I'm going to be sacked anyway. That's just the way it is.

"You can't win. Brian knew that as well. I just knew that it was not in my control. I'm not saying I don't think about these things but I can do absolutely nothing about it."
