TWELVES BANISH BANAGHER

WITH THE 2ND HALF of the season nearly upon us our Under 12s undertook a trip to Co Offaly to take on Banagher FC on Sunday. The day was a great success and we would like to thank our hosts for their kind hospitality. We look forward to inviting them to Dublin in the near future.

As for the game played in heavy conditions, both sides served up some entertaining football for those who braved the cold and wet to cheer them on.

The 1st real chance of the game fell to Mikey James a former Banagher player, but his left foot shot missed the target.
The 1st goal of the game came after 15 minutes when a stinging drive by Glen Carroll was spilled by the Banagher keeper allowing Will O'Brien to tap in the rebound.

Banagher pushed forward looking for an equaliser and played some good football in their approach play but found it difficult to break down the Saints defence.

After the break the Saints upped the game, moving the ball well. Glen Carroll scored the Saints 2nd cutting in from the left to slot home a great right footed shot in off the post.

Keifer Byrne added the 3rd drifting by 3 tackles before hitting the back of the net with a 20 yard shot. As the clock ticked down Banagher forced a series of corners but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. As the Offaly side pushed forward in search of a goal their play deserved they lost possession on the edge of the Saints box.

Another sweeping move was launched by the red and whites which released Carroll - he made his way into the box where he was clipped. Craig Smithers put away the resultant penalty with great aplomb.

Again thanks to our hosts Banagher FC and especially to Brian James who made the whole thing happen. We look forward to seeing them all in the near future.
