SAINTS UNDER 21 KICK OFF THEIR FUTSAL CAMPAIGN

Paul Osam will tomorrow lead his St Patrick's Athletic Under 21 team into the first Futsal championship to be held in Ireland. UCD will provide the Saints' first opponents in the competition with the game scheduled for 3:45pm in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.

Futsal, or indoor five-a-side football to the uninitiated, has become extremely popular around the world. Players have to react faster than in regular 11-a-side matches and the pace of games is relentless. It is widely believed that these elements have a major impact on the development of players.

The Saints players can always call on one of their coaches for some tips and advice. Liam O'Brien has competed for one of his former clubs, Newcastle United, in a similar tournament in England, known as the Masters. Liam's side won the northern section of the recent Masters tournament only to lose out in the semi-finals of the Grand Masters.

The winners of this first tournament to be held in Ireland will represent their country in the UEFA Futsal Cup this summer.
