SAINTS STAY ON COURSE FOR PROMOTION - PART I
PATS A GOAL DOWN
LAST DAY of their regular season saw our under 14's head into their final game with Cabinteely Boys knowing that a win would guarantee them the runner's up spot behind St Malachy's.
A recent slump in form had allowed Templeogue United creep back into contention so with Pats at home to Cabinteely and Templeogue away to Naas AFC it was all to play for.
Cabinteely arrived in Brickfields needing the points as much as the Inchicore side in their fight against relegation. In a nervy 1st half, Dale Kirwan playing well up front had the Saints two best chances but blazed over the bar on both occasions.
In the 23rd minute the Saints failed to clear properly and saw the ball fall on the edge of the box with the resulting low drive being rifled into the net. The news that Pats were a goal down would have filtered through to Naas telling Templeogue to push on for the win.
