Clinical Saints Put Four Past Sligo
The Saints put their first loss of the season last Friday well behind them with a clinical performance to take a 4-1 lead from this Setanta Cup semi-final first leg against Sligo Rovers, who suffered their first loss of the season.
A cracking game at a buzzing Richmond Park saw Saints take the lead through a Paul Byrne header and a well-placed David McAllister shot, both supplied by the on-form Ryan Guy before Mark Doninger pulled one back for Sligo six minutes before half time to leave the tie delicately poised.
Sligo had their chances in the second half but it was Saints who pressed ahead with first, Gareth Coughlan and then Guy with a superb long range left footed strike to spark his trademark celebratory somersault and seal a great night for Pete Mahon's charges in Inchicore.
The second leg takes place on Saturday night at the Showgrounds but Paul Cook will feel the scoreline flattered the home side and will be looking for an early goal to put the pressure on the Saints, who seem to have clicked back into form and will be looking to reach the final of the all Ireland competition for the first time, scheduled for May 15th.
