O’CONNOR MAKES RICHMOND RETURN
St Patrick's Athletic FC have today signed midfielder and former Saints player Garreth O'Connor until the end of the season.
“Gareth was one of the players that we were very sorry to lose and we're delighted to have signed him back”, said Saints manager Pete Mahon, “he's a true professional, he'll bring valuable experience to the squad and will greatly add to the competition for places”.
The 31 year old midfielder played last year with the Inchicore side before joining John Matthews at Drogheda United at the start of the current season.
Commenting on his move O'Connor said “it's definitely easier going from a relegation battle to challenging for the league and that was one of the attractions for coming back to Pat's”.
He added “I enjoyed my time playing for Drogheda and was pleased with the way I had been playing, after a slow start Darius came in and tightened things up a bit and made the side a lot harder to play against”.
Some of the midfielders' best performances this season were away from home for the Boynesiders including two wins against St Pat's at Richmond Park.
“It would be nice to try and reverse that now, said O'Connor, “ I know there's a very good squad of players here and while I enjoyed playing alongside Stuey Byrne in midfield last year I know I will have to work hard to try and get back into the team”.
