Liam Buckley's side remain top of the Airtricity League following a 4-0 victory in Tallaght Stadium tonight thanks to four goals by Conan Byrne.

Byrne scored early in the fifth minute after receiving the ball after Stephen Maher had dispossessed Gary McCabe.

Pats went two in front through a Byrne penalty. Anto Flood won the ball from Derek Foran, before going through on goal. Despite getting a shot off on goal, referee Anthony Buttimer awarded a penalty and sent Foran off. Byrne scored the resulting penalty.

Sean O'Connor saw red for the Hoops after he fouled Chris Forrester who was through on goal.

It was 3-0 Pats and a hat-trick for Byrne on 56 minutes after another penalty. This time Ronan Finn fouled Chris Forrester in the box, and Byrne powered his effort from the spot past Barry Murphy.

It was 4-0 Pats after Anto Flood saw his header saved by Murphy, but Byrne was on hand to tap in and ensure Pats secured their first victory in Tallaght since March 2010.

ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC: Clarke; O'Brien, Kenna, Browne, Bermingham; Byrne, Russell, Bolger, Maher (Gannon, 67), Forrester (Kavanagh, 77); Flood (Fagan, 66).
