Penalty King Semifinal Lineup Announced
The first semifinal of the Dublin Schools' Penalty King competition takes place this evening in Richmond Park at halftime as the Saints take on Drogheda in a league tie.
There are 3 schools competing in a separate junior and senior competition and these are:
The junior competition will be up first, with each competitor taking three penalties initially to see which two contenders will go through to the final.
Taylor Hall will represent Our Lady of Mercy, Jason Whelan is up next as the Drimnagh Castle junior champion and that leaves Jack Johnston from St Kevins.
The seniors come next where Colm Dunne is the champion from Our Lady of Mercy, Kevin O'Grady holds the Drimnagh Castle banner and Anthony Curedale is the St Kevin's contender.
If there is no result after three rounds there will be a sudden death shootout with 6 rounds maximum.
If there is still no result, a coin toss will decide the winners.
All participants were invited down to the club mid-week to meet with Saints captain Ger O'Brien and to practise a few penalties at the Patrons Stand end of the ground where the shootout will take place.
"I was very impressed with the school champions and it was pretty obvious why they had won their heats," said O'Brien.
"To be honest I didn't have to give them many tips as they consistently found the corners and side-netting. Its going to be tough for our keeper this evening - as long as they can keep their cool."
