Richard Black RIP

St Patrick's Athletic FC was saddened this week to hear of the passing of former Director of the club and long-time supporter of the Saints, Mr. Richard Black.

Richard passed away after a short illness and everyone connected with the club would like to pass on their condolences to the Black family, in particular to Richard's wife Catherine, and children Niall, Declan, Irene and Vivien and all his grandchildren.

Richard's involvement and positive impact on St Patrick's Athletic cannot be underestimated, as he played a key role in some of the club's toughest times in the 1990's and also played a key role in the transfer of ownership of the club to Garrett Kelleher in 2007.

Club President Phil Mooney has paid tribute to Richard Black, commenting "Richard was a very valuable member and director of the club. He was a mentor to us all and his service to St Patrick's Athletic FC was outstanding."

"He always made himself available to be in a position to help the club, particularly during difficult times for the club over 20 years ago during the 1990's. He was someone I personally was very close to.

His family through Niall have also developed a fondness of the club and we are thinking of all of the family at this difficult time for them. As a man, as a person and as a supporter of the club, we will all miss Richard Black dearly."
