Former St Pat's Star Jake Carroll Joins Cambridge United On A Two-and-a-half-year Deal
JAKE CARROLL has joined Cambridge United on a two-and-a-half year deal.
The former St Pat's player has joined from fellow League Two side Hartlepool United for an undisclosed fee.
Carroll, 25, said: "I'm really pleased to be here because it's a club clearly going in the right direction and with real ambition.
"I'm relishing the chance to play my part in a team that is challenging in the top half of the division.
"I have heard nothing but good things about the club and its close-knit group of players, so I'm really looking forward to it.
"I'll be looking to get my head down, work hard, and earn a place in the team to show everyone around the club what I can do."
Cambridge boss Shaun Derry hopes the full-back – who can also play in midfield – will help their promotion push. They lie ninth but just a point off the play-offs.
Derry said: "We're delighted to welcome Jake into our squad, as he is a player we have been tracking since the previous transfer window.
"He's very much a different type of fullback to the players we already have within our group and he will be able to contribute in a different way."
Carroll made 32 Premier Division appearances for Liam Buckley's side before joining Huddersfield Town in 2013. He played for the first team nine times as well as having loan spells with Bury and Partick Thistle.
He moved to Hartlepool in the summer of 2015 and had been their first-choice left-back ever since.
