Bray Wanderers vs St Patrick's Athletic

St Patrick's Athletic advanced to the quarter-finals of the Leinster Senior Cup thanks to a 4-0 win over Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

Christy Fagan scored twice in between goals from Ian Bermingham and Alex O'Hanlon as Liam Buckley's side ran out comfortable winner.

Liam Buckley gave debuts to Pat Cregg, Gavin Peers and Alex O'Hanlon, whilethere was also a first start for Barry Murphy in goal in what is his second spell at the Saints.

The Saints were quickly into their rhythm as after just eight minutes, JJ Lunney and Fagan helped tee up Ian Bermingham on the corner of the penalty area whose low drive beat Bray netminder Peter Cherrie to Pat's a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later, it was 2-0 to the Saints as a good move starting with Gavin Peers at the back eventually found it's way to Conan Byrne whose drilled cross was volleyed into the roof of the net by Fagan.

Bray could have scored at the midway point in the first half as John Sullivan's close range effort from a corner was well blocked on the line by the Saints, while Dylan Connolly also threatened for the Seagulls but he was snuffed out by a combination of Peers and Murphy in goal.

After 35 minutes though, the goal was effectively over as a contest as Fagan found himself one-on-one on the edge of the box and made no mistake to slot the Saints' third goal and what was his 80th for the club in all competitions.

Rory Feely entered the fray before the half-time break and there was no let up from the Saints in the second half as it was 4-0 by the 53rd minute. Fagan again was pivotal as his interception led to a chance being set-up for former Liverpool man Alex O'Hanlon and the talented 20 year old made no mistake.

Barry Murphy again showed his sharp reflexes when tipping a Hugh Douglas header over the bar, while he also made a smart save to stop a Ryan Brennan shot, while Michael Barker was unlucky not to make it 5-0 when his cross/shot was tipped away by Cherrie.

However the Saints were not to be denied as they march on to the Quarter-Finals of the Leinster Senior Cup as they attempt to reclaim the trophy the club last won in 2014.
