Arkins, Guy Named In Saints Squad

Vastly-experienced front man Vinny Arkins and American-born striker Ryan Guy have both been included in the St Patrick’s Athletic squad for the Setanta Sports Cup, which starts on Monday evening (February 26th).

Saints had lost striker Aidan O’Keefe to Drogheda United in the close-season.

But the arrival of Arkins and Guy – as well as previous signing Gary O’Neill – leaves them strong in the forward department going into 2007.

Arkins spent time with Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne before a phenomenally successful stint with Portadown in the Irish League. The 36-year-old joined Bohemians 12 months ago but has completed the set of major Dublin clubs by joining John McDonnell’s Saints.

Guy, meanwhile, had spent time on trial at Richmond Park in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old was part of the squad at American college side San Diego Toreros but turned down the chance to join FC Dallas in a bid to earn a deal in Europe.

He spent time on trial at Coca-Cola Championship side Crystal Palace as well as Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96, but Saints boss McDonnell has succeeded in bringing the highly-rated prospect to Inchicore.
