St Patrick’s Athletic goalkeeper Brendan Clarke will miss the start of the League of Ireland season with a broken bone in his foot.
Clarke has sat out the four-day training trip to Birmingham this week after sustaining the injury in training.
He is set to be sidelined for up to six weeks, which could rule him out of the first month of the new season.
The 23-year-old netminder, who spent time on loan at Sporting Fingal last season, had been set to fight it out with Gary Rogers for the number one shirt at Richmond Park following the departure of previous first-choice Barry Ryan.
Saints will try to find a way past Ryan in the first game of the new season, with the Clareman having returned west to join Galway United during the close-season.
