PAT’S SIGN NEW STRIKER

  • Tue, Jan 12, 2010 @ 18:54

Paul Byrne, a 23 year old striker with Bray Wanderers last season, is the latest player to sign for Pete Mahon and St Patrick's Athletic.

Mahon as former manager of UCD is no doubt very familiar with Byrne who played four seasons with the students before he went on to join Sporting Fingal and then Bray.

Originally from Firhouse, Byrne started his career with local club Cherry Orchard and has also won a call-up to the Ireland U-19 squad.

Byrne will be joining fellow ex-Bray players Derek Pender and Gareth Coughlan in the new look Pat's squad.

Looking ahead to the new season as a Saints' player Byrne said “my aim is to break into the first team and then to challenge for every competition that Pat's are in this season”.

Saints fans won't need reminding that Byrne scored the winner against Pat's in the Carlisle Grounds last season, “but hopefully they won't hold that against me” he added.
