VINNY FAHERTY SIGNS FOR PAT’S
St Patrick's Athletic are pleased to announce that striker Vinnie Faherty has become the latest player to sign for the club.
The 22 year old Galway native was signed from Salthill Devon by Tony Cousins for Galway United in July 2007 and finished top scorer for the Tribesmen last season.
Faherty had been over in the UK training with Crystal Palace when he got a call from Pat's assistant manager John Gill, “Derek O'Brien had always spoken well of his time here at the club so I was immediately interested” said Fahery. “I kept an eye on what John and Pete were doing, the squad that they're building and I must say I've been impressed, I did have a better offer from another club but I wanted to come to Pat's”.
Faherty is looking forward to playing again with Shane Guthrie another ex-Galway player recently signed by St Pat's “It will be good to join up again with Shane and I think he will prove to be a great signing for the club as he was our best defender at Galway last season”.
With Pat's making a number of signings ahead of the new season there is no guarantee of a starting place but the young striker is looking forward to the challenge “there's a lot of young players here all eager to play, so there will be plenty of competition for places. Last season I played a lot on my own up front, but sometimes you can get into a comfort zone and you need to push yourself”.
“Hopefully the competition for places will work in my favour and help improve my overall game”, said Faherty, “last year I set a target for myself of 10 goals and I got 8 but I would hope to beat that this season with Pat's”.
