Preview: Portadown V Saints

  • Mon, Apr 16, 2007 @ 8:30

Portadown host Saint Patrick's Athletic at Shamrock Park on Monday night in the closing round of games in the Setanta Sports Cup. The Saints are already assured of a home semi-final and have nothing to play for while Portadown have been eliminated.

Portadown have won just one of fifteen Setanta Sports Cup games they have played in three years so Monday night's game represents a small chance to rebuild some pride. They lost 7-0 on their last outing in the competition - at home to Cork City.

St. Pats are still unbeaten after eleven competitive games this season and that record is likely to be their only motivation on Monday night.

Peter Kennedy is suspended for the home side after picking up two bookings in the competition.

Five Pats players on yellow cards should be first on manager John McDonnell's possible "rest list" and it would be very surprising if he didn't ring the changes. Stephen Brennan, John Frost, Joseph Ndo, Stephen Quigley and Barry Ryan all go into the game one booking away from missing the semi-final. Anthony Murphy and Stephen Quigley are nearing returns after injuries while Ndo went off with a knock in Friday's draw with Bohs.
