The draw for the third round of the FAI Ford Cup was made by Ireland’s new international manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, and his assistant, Marco Tardelli.

The draw threw up two contests between teams outside of the FAI eircom League of Ireland – St. Mary’s of Cork against Wayside Celtic of Dublin and Everton of Cork against Carrick United of Waterford.

The loudest cheer of the night in the ballroom at the D4 Hotel in Ballsbridge came from the sizeable contingent of Drogheda Town football club when they were handed an away draw against Bohemians.

Former Bohs player Terry Eviston is now managing the Drogheda Town team in the Leinster Senior League.

Eviston won the FAI Cup during a distinguished stint at Dundalk while his Assistant at Drogheda Town, Lee King, was on the Bohemians team of 1992 that clinched the Blue Riband with a 1-0 win over Cork City at Lansdowne Road.

Both Eviston and King were delighted with the outcome of the draw and are relishing the chance to test their team against eircom league of Ireland Premier Division title contenders Bohemians in Dalymount Park.

Eviston said: “This tie means everything to us. We’ve just been involved in a relegation battle within our league for the last six games and got through that last Friday.

“Our league season is over but we’ll get back in training on Wednesday and organise a few friendly matches before we go to Dalymount Park.”

On the prospects of the Louth men taking the scalp of Bohs, Eviston said:

“People would have to fancy Bohemians. No one will give us a chance and hopefully the Bohs players will look at it and think they just have to turn up. If that’s the case, it will benefit us.

“It will be unknown territory for our team but we’re on cloud nine tonight with the draw.”

Another of the non-league clubs, Liffey Pearse FC, also drew one of the big guns as they travel to the Brandywell for a tie against Derry City.

The only all-Premier Division duel of the round will take place between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers.

The ties are to be played on the week ending June 8.
