St. Patrick’s Athletic defender Conor Kenna has been named Airtricity / SWAI Player of the Month for March.

The defender picked-up the first Player of the Month award for the 2010 season after a series of solid defences in the heart of the Saints’ defence. Airtricity, sponsor of the league, was today confirmed as the sponsor of the Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month award for the 2010 season.

Kenna has been in fine form for St. Pat’s since joining the club from Drogheda United over the winter break. He was an ever-present in their six matches during March, helping the club to a great start to the Airtricity League season as well as a place in the Setanta Sports Cup final.

“I was shocked when I found out I had won Player of the Month,” said Kenna. “It’s a great honour for myself and it also shows how well we have started the season as a team. I am really enjoying myself at St. Pat’s. We have started the season very well and hopefully we can keep it up.”

Kevin Greenhorn, Managing Director of Airtricity, congratulated Kenna on being named as the first Airtricity / SWAI Player of the Month for 2010.

“Airtricity is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the Soccer Writers’ Association Player of the Month awards,” he said. “This sponsorship is a further extension of our partnership with Irish football and allows us, on behalf of the real fans of real football, to acknowledge the up-and-coming stars of Irish football playing in the Airtricity League.

“Each Player of the Month award is a real high-point for players and fans alike. As a very serious football fan myself, I’m looking forward to finding out which players are going to emerge each month as yet another outstanding footballer of the Airtricity League.

“Given his super performances on behalf of St. Pat’s, Conor Kenna is a worthy winner of this first Airtricity / Soccer Writers’ Association Player of the Month title.”
