ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC legend Paddy 'Ginger' O'Rourke has passed away.
It is with great sadness that the Saints announced the death of their Hall of Fame member O'Rourke.
O'Rourke won two league championships and two FAI Cups with the Saints and was a member of the full Ireland squad as well as winning 'B' and Junior international caps.
An Inchicore native, he signed for St Pat's from Bulfin United in 1953. He won a Junior International cap at the age of 19 and scored in the 1954 FAI Cup semi-final replay against Cork Celtic.
After claiming an FAI Cup runners-up medal in the 1954 final, O'Rourke starred as the Saints won back-to-back League Championships in 1955 and 1956. He won FAI Cup medals in 1959 and 1961.
In 1958 Paddy was a member of the first Irish team to play in Iceland, a team consisting only of League of Ireland players and was a member of the full International squad for the home game against Poland on Sunday, 5th October 1958.
He was capped in the ‘B’ International against South Africa in Dalymount on Saturday 11th. October 1958. After a decade of service to ‘The Saints’, Paddy transferred to Limerick in 1963.
After his playing days ended he maintained his connection to the club and was well-known to supporters on his regular visits to Richmond Park.
The Airtricity League joins with the club in extending our deepest sympathies to Paddy's family and friends at this time.
