North Saves Saints

Daniel North scored from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time to deny Derry City victory at the Brandywell.

The Saints deserved their point as they battled back after falling behind to James McClean's second-half strike.

Early on, a super through- ball by Shane McFaul released Daryl Kavanagh but his goal-bound shot was brilliantly saved by Gerard Doherty.

City missed two golden chances right on the stroke of half-time as Kevin Deery's diving header was parried by Gary Rogers and the 'keeper somehow diverted Eamon Zayed's follow-up effort over the bar.

In the second half, a teasing cross from Eddie McCallion on 70 minutes found McClean, his header deflected back off Zayed and the winger volleyed the ball home for 1-0.

But Pete Mahon's side deservedly levelled things on 80 minutes when North fired home from the penalty spot after McCallion was adjudged to have brought down Kavanagh inside the area.
