After more FAI Cup heartache, St Patrick's Athletic return to Airtricity Premier Division action tonight knowing victory is key to securing a place in European football next season.

The Saints were shocked by Shelbourne last Monday in a Cup replay, losing 3-1 and confirming a 50-year period of the famous trophy not making it's way to Inchicore.

Tonight's opponents Derry City know that any slip-up will end their title hopes and even two wins in their closing matches of the season is unlikely to be enough after last week's defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

There is no doubt that is has been a fantastic campaign for Derry on their return to the top flight and they will now target second-place, hoping that Sligo Rovers slip up again in the capital against Bohemians.

Gary Rogers misses the match after being sent off against Shels. Chris Bennion will deputise. Sean O'Connor is out for the rest of the campaign.

Eddie McCallion and Gareth McGlynn miss out for Derry because of calf injuries.

Owen Morrison is also an absentee while Stewart Greacen, who's error led to Rohan Ricketts putting the Hoops in pole position to retain the title, is struggling with a shoulder injury.

Patrick McEleney and Shane McEleney face fitness tests before kick-off.

Stephen Kenny wants his players to secure European football with a positive result in Richmond Park tonight.

"Europe would be a huge prize for the players - it would be a big thing, massive for the club, with serious financial rewards.

"We won't be playing for a draw - we'll be positive and try to score goals.

"We will take the game to them and make sure we defend well when we need to.

"This will be a tough game as St Pat's have only lost one match at home this season.

"They have to beat us to have a chance of qualifying for Europe themselves so we need to rediscover the edge in our play."
