15A'S STILL IN PROMOTION HUNT

OUR 15A TEAM TRAVELLED AWAY TO Verona on Sunday knowing a win was vital to maintain their promotion hopes.

The Saints started off poorly but took the lead through a well worked set piece. Abdul Ahmed’s corner kick to the back post saw Stuart O’Sullivan rise above the Verona defence and power his header home. As the half wore on Verona pegged the Saints lead back to go in level at 1-1 at the break.

In the second half Brian Gardiner’s team were still not firing on all cylinders, spurning a number a chances to seal the game. With 9 minutes to go the game really burst into life.

Top goal scorer Martin Staunton picked off Verona with 2 goals and Troy Forte put the game to bed with Pat’s fourth.

Gardiner said afterwards, “The result wasn’t a true indicator of the game. Verona caused us a few problems. We didn’t play as well as we know we can. However, the lads can be proud of their efforts and it’s a good sign that even when you are not playing well you can still win. We have 2 games to go so it is all to play for and our destiny is in our own hands.”
