FIFTEEN’S SECURE PROMOTION

Needing just one win from their two remaining games to secure promotion our 15A side went away to Park Celtic on Sunday hoping to secure the points they needed, but knowing that they had another opportunity on Tuesday against Wayside Celtic.

Park Celtic had just won the division, Pat's knew it wasn't going to be easy. A goal after 20 minutes seemed to settle the nerves of the away side, a ball across the edge of Park's box was smashed home by Abdul Ahmed.

Park crowned champions last weekend were keen to finish their campaign on a winning note and got back into the game with a well taken equalizer. 1-1 at the break.

A few motivational words and Pats came out all guns blazing. A well worked move straight after the kick off left Martin Staunton with just the keeper to beat, 2-1.

But the home side was never going to roll over easily and seemed to have broken Saint's hearts when first they equalized and then took the lead with 15 minutes left.

Saint's Stuart O'Sullivan pulling the strings in midfield had other ideas and after playing a neat one-two with Staunton unleashed a stunning drive to level.

With time running out, could Pats fashion one more chance? Troy Forte had the answer, his pace took him past the Park defence to slot the winner home, much to the delight of the Pat's line, 4-3 to the Saints.

Manager Brian Gardener paid tribute to his team, “What a game? These lads deserve their promotion. They were excellent all season for their first season together. I'd just like to that my backroom staff, Tony Moore and Colin Coleman as well as the club for all their help. The parents for their support and of course the players, I'm really pleased for them.”
