UCD U21 0 St Pats U21 1
A thirty yard super goal from Luke Fitzpatrick after just 6 minutes was enough to give the Saints an important victory this morning in Belfield.
The ball dropped to Fitzpatrick on the right hand side of the box and his first time right foot shot found the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper stranded to score what proved to be the winning goal.
In what was a highly competitive game the Saints defence epitomised the team's recent performances and helped goalkeeper Brendan Clarke to his 9th successive clean sheat on his 20th birthday.
UCD's best chance of the game came in injury time but a heroic block from Vinny Perth prevented the Under 21's from suffering the same agonising late equaliser as their Senior counterparts had in Drogheda the previous evening.
The Saints ran the game for most of the 90 minutes with Robbie Smith and Joey Hayden both testing the Students' goalkeeper and Christy Doran seeing his second half free-kick agonisingly deflected wide.
Tullamore are next on the list for Paul Osam and Cyril Walsh's team. Kick off next Tuesday is 7.45 in Richmond Park.
St Pats: Clark; Quigley, Sargeant, O'Shea, Bell (Doran); Fitzpatrick, Hayden, Perth, Darcy (McMahon); Smith, Dunne.
