1987/88 - From The Archives
The season was 1987/88 and the League was a three horse race between Dundalk, Bohemians and the Saints under manager Brian Kerr.
Kerr had brought in a whole new squad, many of whom would go on to be part of the 1989/90 League winning side and become Saints Legends.
Among the players playing that season were: Dave Henderson, Pat Kelch, Paul Masterson, Maurice O'Driscoll, Paddy Dillon, Mark Ennis, Paul Byrne, Mick Moody, Damien Byrne, Curtis Fleming, Martin Morrison, John Treacy, Mark Meagan, Pat Dolan, Pat Fenlon, Tommy Wilson, and John McDonnell.
In the end, it came down to the final game of the season versus Dundalk. Saints needed a win in Oriel Park to clinch the League.
Paddy Dillon scored with a ‘hand of God' and was sent off, and a one-all draw gave Dundalk the title by a point.
