STRIKER BYRNE LINES OUT FOR IRELAND U-23’s

St Patrick's Athletic striker Paul Byrne lined out for the Ireland U-23's squad last night (May 26th) to face England at the RSC in Waterford.

Having scored against the League champions last Friday, Byrne came close to putting the home side ahead in the 18th minute, when the Saints striker steered his shot wide of the goal following a cross from Ross Gaynor.

Byrne was withdrawn at halftime and replaced by Paddy Madden and though the Bohemians striker got on the score-sheet, a goal in each half was enough to give England the victory on the night.

Byrne will undergo a fitness test at training this evening ahead of Saints' trip to take on Drogheda United in the Airtricity League on Saturday night.
