INCHICORE SCHOOLS SOCCER COMPETITION A GREAT SUCCESS
Inchicore National School claimed the Peter Perry Memorial Cup sponsored by St Patrick's Athletic in a thrilling final at the CIE Grounds in Inchicore this week.
The boys from Our Lady of Lourdes School had fought back bravely to level the score at 1-1 and to bring the game to extra time before losing out to a last minute ‘golden goal'.
The competition was sponsored by the local Airtricity League side St Patrick's Athletic FC had involved the four local primary schools from Inchicore and Bluebell which also included Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal and Our Lady of the Wayside.
The cup was named in memory of the late Peter Perry who for many years worked as a boxing coach with young people from the local areas.
Peter was also involved with St Patrick's Athletic FC and the club was delighted that his daughter and grand-daughter, Angela and Geraldine were there on the day to present the teams with their medals and the cup to the winning team.
With Our Lady of Lourdes having won the girls' cup, the boys' final was fiercely contested with a large attendance from the schools themselves as well as parents and families.
St Pat's club promotions officer Declan White was delighted with the response to the competition “on the pitch there was as much passion on show as you would see in any World cup and it is great to see the schools as well as the parents, friends and neighbours on the sidelines supporting a competition like this”.
The competition is expected to become an annual event for the area and the hope is to schedule the finals Richmond Park each year.
