Stpatsfc.com Catch Up With Evan McMillan

Evan McMillan won the Supporters Player of the Year, and stpatsfc.com reporter, Damien Byrne, caught up with the towering centre-half to get his thoughts on the 2011 season.

How does it feel to be voted as Fans Player of the Year?

“It was great, it was one of the highlights of my year. I suppose I wouldn't have thought about it until all the lads were talking about it at the end of the season, I was a little bit surprised as well so it was a nice award to get”

After having such a good season, what would be the stand out moment for you?

“I suppose most of the European games, the two home legs in Europe with the packed out stadiums and scoring the opening goal in one of them games was probably the best moment of the season.”

Is there anything moments of the season you'd like to forget?

“Well I just attended the FAI Cup Final, I was dragged along to it so watching that wasn't great I suppose. I was trying to think of something else but that would be the main one.”

How did this season as a Pat's player feel with the European trip and the cup run?

“Yeah it was a very different experience than playing at UCD, a good experience and I suppose Europe was the highlight of that.

It's just a different type of game in Europe and I think we adapted to that and then playing in the league and I think just during the weeks we were playing in Europe we lost points and lost the chance of winning the league really.”

Who were the best players you played with and against last season?

“Well a few of the lads were talking about who we would have voted for as player of the year and I said I would have went for Ian Bermingham, then against, eh, probably Richie Ryan, he was one of the best players in the league. I'm not sure about strikers but definitely Richie Ryan overall.”

What was the best fixture for you last season?

“Probably playing Shamrock Rovers, but not beating them would have been a low moment as well.”

Was it a special feeling playing with your brother David last season?

“Yeah I was just disappointed for him because I thought he deserved to be starting, maybe not upfront because the two lads were going well but every time he did he took his chance.

It is good and it's very handy because he gives me a lift as well and it's a good feeling playing with him and maybe we'll do it again in the future.”
