FAI Cup Team News: Cork V St Pat's

St Patrick's Athletic continue the defence of their FAI Cup crown as they travel south to face Cork City in the third round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup on Friday night (Kick-Off 7.25pm, LIVE on RTE Two).

The Saints will be hoping to continue their good form in domestic with the EA Sports Cup Final to come vs Galway United on September 19, and the Saints still involved in the Leinster Senior Cup as well.

Having defeated the Rebel Army in Turner's Cross on the way to the EA Sports Cup final, Liam Buckley knows that his side face a very tough task on Friday night as John Caulfield's side look to advance to the quarter-finals.

"Friday's game should be a really good game for the neutrals as with it being a cup game, both teams will go for the win. Cup football always creates that drama and entertainment so it should be a great game for those in Turner's Cross and watching on the television."

In team news, Buckley confirmed that Christy Fagan remains out with a knee injury, while both Kenny Browne and Ian Morris face late fitness test. Killian Brennan returns from suspension as the manager confirmed all other members of his squad are available for selection.

For Saints' defender Jason McGuinness, the FAI Cup is a special competition having received two winner's medals in his time with Sligo Rovers.

"I've always been excited by playing in the cup," McGuinness told stpatsfc.com. "It's such a buzz to play knock-out football and with the opportunity to get to Lansdowne and the Aviva Stadium, it's what you play the game for."

"Cork are a good team and the league table doesn't lie; they're one of the best teams in the country. But we've played them down there before and know we can get a result there. We were disappointed with Monday's result against Dundalk, but the great thing is we've a game so close coming up so we can hopefully put that right with getting a result against Cork."
