Clarke, O'Reilly & Mahon In Ireland U16 Squad For UEFA Tournament

St Patrick's Athletic U17 players Harry Clarke, Kevin O'Reilly and Seanie Mahon have been named in the Republic of Ireland U16 squad for a UEFA Development Tournament in Mayo later this month.

The lads have all played a key role for The Saints since joining the club from Cherry Orchard in the summer and also won the Victory Shield with Ireland late last year.

Paul Osam's squad will face Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Denmark with their first match taking place on Sunday May 21st.

Osam spoke to FAI.ie about his squad.

"The expectation will be to perform well and our aim is to play well. The players who've been in before will have the chance to build on their international experience and add to it."

"The new players have a challenge in that they need to take on a lot of information in a short time frame and ourselves in the staff have the challenge to pass that information on to them."

St Pat's Manager Jamie Moore also gave his thoughts on the call-ups.

"I'm really happy for the three boys that they are in the squad, they've all performed really well for us so far this season and hopefully they'll be able to carry that form into the Mayo Cup."

"They won the Victory Shield and played some really good football and I'm sure they will want to end their international season on a high with another trophy."

Chance To Impress

"All of our lads have been watching the U17s at the Euros with Brian Maher, Luke Nolan and Richie O'Farrell all flying and our 2001 born players will be looking to do the same next season, this is the next chance for them to impress."

"We played Paul's U16s in Abbotstown in a friendly recently and did well, winning the game 3-2. Harry and Sean played for Ireland in that game and Sean actually scored. Kev played for us and was excellent. We have a number of other U16s in our group who I think are good enough to play international football if they get picked. It's important they keep doing their stuff at club level with us and hopefully that chance will arise for them in the future."
