Redmond Signs New Long Term Contract

We are delighted to announce that defender Joe Redmond has signed a new long term contract with the club.

The 22-year-old joined us from Drogheda United at the start of the season and has been an ever present at the heart of our defence.

Joe has been named our Manguard Plus Player of the Month for the last two months (March and April), earning himself the nickname 'The Rock Of Richmond' among the St Patrick's Athletic supporters, he also received his first Ireland U21 call-up earlier this season.

Redmond spent five years with Birmingham City before returning home to sign for Tim Clancy's Drogheda United last July, he followed Clancy to St Pat's in January.

Joe said:

"I'm buzzing to get it done and am looking forward to the rest of the season and the next few years ahead. Speaking with the club about the new contract has been very easy and getting it done as soon as possible and now I can focus on playing football.

I've really enjoyed being here and I'm hoping to continue to enjoy it and continue putting in good performances."

Clancy added:

"It's really pleasing to get Joe tied down to a new contract, I know there was interest from other clubs. He's had a great start to the season, and was rewarded with his first Ireland U21 call-up, he's been probably our most consistent player and it's great news for the club.

He's very mature for a 22-year-old, he plays the game really well, he's a Pat's fan too and loves it here, he said he's the happiest he's ever been playing football and you can see that in his performances."
