Pat Dolan's rejuvenated St Patrick's Athletic ended Longford Town's six league game unbeaten run, in very cold conditions in Strokestown Road.
This result does not affect Town's position in the table and they are still in second place, four points behind leaders Shelbourne.
In the first half that was edged by Longford Town, it was Pats who came in two goals to the good at half time.
They were very soft goals, both scored by Darragh Maguire from Robbie Griffin and Paul Osam corners in the 21st and 39th minutes.
Town tried to push forward in the second half, but Pats' experience told. Jimmy Harris, was only on for three minutes, sealed a great win for Pats. After dispossessing Robbie Coyle, he rounded Town keeper, Stephen O'Brien and coolly slotted home.
Town had chances in the second half, but Stephen Gavin, Colin Notaro, Stephen Kelly and Robbie Coyle could not apply the decisive touch.
