St Patrick's Athletic can today announce the signing of 27 year old midfielder Alan Cawley.

A key performer for Bray Wanderers in recent seasons, the former Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday player also had spells in the League of Ireland with UCD, Shelbourne and Waterford.

The Sligo native told that he was surprised to get the call to join St Pats:

“There had been a bit of interest from one or two clubs, but I was delighted to get the call from Jeff. Pats are one of the best teams in the country, it's a great opportunity for me to join the side and hopefully things will go well for me”.

Cawley who can play either on the left or centre of midfield is looking forward to joining his new team mates and some familiar faces at Richmond Park.

“You'd be familiar with a lot of the lads from playing in the league but I know Damien Lynch very well as he looked out for me when I first started out at Leeds and I would also have roomed with Jamie Harris during my time at Shelbourne”.

Alan becomes the club's third signing ahead of the coming season following the captures of Gary Rogers and John Lester.

An updated squad list for the coming season is as follows:
• Gary Rogers
• Brendan Clarke
• David Partridge
• Jason Gavin
• Noel Haverty
• Jamie Harris
• John Lester
• Damian Lynch
• Bobby Ryan
• Alan Cawley
• Gary Dempsey
• Ryan Guy
