NEW UNDER 20’s MANAGER APPOINTED
The club are delighted to announce that Paul Somers has been appointed manager of the St Patrick's Athletic under 20 team which will compete for the Dr O Neill Cup from July 2009.
Having coached at Cherry Orchard for a number of years, Paul joined Pete Mahon at UCD to work on youth development.
In 2007 he successfully managed UCD to win the Under 21 League and he also won the A team Championship in 2008.
Paul told stpatsfc.com
“As a life-long St Pat’s fan it’s always been my ambition to work with the club and I’m hopeful of exciting times ahead.
“I look forward to working with fellow coaches at the club and I look forward to putting a structure in place to unearth and develop young talent from the area”.
Paul will be working hard to build up his squad and to put his scouting network to use ahead of the start of the Under 20 league in July and the club would like to wish him every success for the coming season.
Club CEO Richard Sadlier felt the appointment demonstrates how seriously the club view youth development, and is delighted Paul agreed to take on the job:
"The long-term success of any club relies on the strength of its foundations.
"In terms of player development, it is essential we coach and develop our younger players to as high a level as possible.
"We currently have three players in our first-team squad who have come right through the ranks here. I would hope Paul's input, along with that of all our coaches, would lead to many more joining them in the future"
