The Saints came through a thrilling two-legged tie against NS Mura of Slovenia in the previous round.

After finishing 1-1 at Richmond Park, it was 0-0 in the return fixture last Thursday and after 120 minutes of football, it was decided on penalties.

Eoin Doyle, Ronan Coughlan, Jay McClelland, Thijis Timmermans, Serge Atakayi and Joe Redmond all scored for The Saints and when Tio Ciprot drilled his effort over the bar, it ensured St Pat's advanced to the third qualifying round after a 6-5 victory on penalties.

The Saints returned to domestic action at the weekend and their defence of the FAI Cup saw elimination in the first round at the hands of First Division Waterford FC.

Wassim Aouachria gave The Blues the lead before Ronan Coughlan equalised from the penalty spot. Tom Grivosti's header then put St Pat's ahead just after the half hour mark but another Aouachria goal and a 42nd minute Junior goal proved to be the winner as The Blues knocked the reigning champions out.

St Pat's have quickly turned their focus to Thursday's match in Bulgaria.

Opposition Watch

CSKA Sofia are one of Bulgaria's biggest and most successful clubs and with 31 league titles and 21 domestic cups to their name.

They are also the only Bulgarian side to reach the European Cup semi finals in 1966/67 and 1981/82 where they were beaten by Inter Milan and Bayern Munich respectively.

Their most recent appearance in a European competition was just last year when they qualified for the Europa Conference League group stages.

They failed to make it through to the knockout stages, finishing 4th in a group with Roma, FK Bodo/Glimt of Norway and FC Zorya Luhansk of Ukraine.

They won the Bulgarian Cup last year and were runners up in the league, losing out on the title to Ludogorets.

They come into this game in 2nd place in the Bulgarian League after their opening four games.

They have yet to lose in their league, winning their opening three games and drawing one, leaving them level on points with Ludogorets at the top.

Manager Tim Clancy and attacker Billy King looked ahead to the game at our virtual pre-match press conference last night, watch the best bits on our YouTube channel below.

Team-News: Mark Doyle (suspended) and Adam Murphy (hamstring) are the only two absentees.
