McDONNELL CONTINUES OFF-SEASON REBUILDING
Saints’ manager Johnny McDonnell is continuing to keep busy during the 2004 off-season, as he has just announced the signing of former Dublin City member and Goalkeeper of the Year Barry Ryan.
The 27-year old athletic goalkeeper previously played for UCD and Shamrock Rovers, and will now serve as the replacement for the recently departed Chris Adamson. Ryan will look to compete for the number one jersey in the 2005 season with Ballyfermot’s own quick-handed goalie Brendan Clarke- who showed some late season brilliance during the last few weeks of the 2004 campaign.
McDonnell’s new addition to the club will add some veteranship and experience to the young Saints. Ryan joins ex-Bohemian’s player Stephen Caffrey and ex-Liverpool and under-21 international midfielder Michael Foley as the new 2004 signees to McDonnell’s growing team. With each new signee the 2005 Saints’ season brings more and more anticipation.
