International Friendly In Minnesota Confirmed
St Patrick's Athletic FC are pleased to announce an International Friendly against Minnesota United FC during the March International break.
The Irish FAI Cup winners will face the MLS side at Allianz Field, Saint Paul, Minnesota on Wednesday March 20th.
This groundbreaking match will be the first time that a League of Ireland club will travel to play an MLS team in season since the inception of the MLS in 1996.
Minnesota United are based in the Twin Cities, a sports City at the core of America's Heartland, renowned for its many successful sports franchises.
As both the League of Ireland and the MLS continues to grow, this match between two huge clubs is sure to excite football fans on both sides of the pond, with many Irish expats set to attend.
St Patrick's Athletic General Manager Anthony Delaney welcomed today’s announcement:
"It is a great and unique opportunity for St Patrick's Athletic to test our squad against Minnesota United.
The MLS has shown rapid growth in the last number of years so it will be exciting to play a team from this league.
We were introduced to our colleagues in Minnesota United by friends of the Club and once we found an available date that suited both teams, it was an easy fixture to set.
There is a big Irish-American community locally and we will be in town for St Patrick's Day and with the fixture occurring a few days later, this will no doubt add to the occasion."
We'll confirm exact fixture details in the coming weeks.
