ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC powered their way to the top of the Premier Division with a 4-0 thrashing of Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds yesterday.
A Mark Quigley goal in first half stoppage time and and own goal five minutes into the second half knocked the stuffing out of a struggling Sligo outfit.
Seán Kelly put the ball into his own net on 51 minutes to put St Pat's 3-0 up and it got worse for the home side with Dave Mulcahy scoring on the hour mark after Alan Kirby showed superb ball control along the end line.
The visitors went ahead in the 16th minute when Gary O'Neill struck home from the penalty spot after Mulcahy was impeded in the box.
Mark Quigley doubled the visitors advantage a minute into first half stoppage time when he headed an Anthony Murphy's clever cross past the Sligo 'keeper.
