DROGHEDA UNITED overtook St Patrick's Athletic at top of the Eircom Premier table as goals in either half from Paul McCarthy and a match winner from Vinny Sullivan gave Waterford United a surprise but deserved victory at the RSC last night.
Lowly Blues took on a St Pat's side that looked unconvincing and will be rocked by this result.
With three minutes remaining in a poor first half, the home side took the lead as Paul McCarthy netted his second goal of the season when heading home a left-wing free-kick from Daryl Kavanagh after the latter had been fouled.
Pat's midfielder, Dave Mulcahy took advantage of dreadful defending from Pat Flynn on 64 minutes to level the tie.
But amazingly, the home side were back in front less than sixty seconds later when new signing from Aberdeen, Willy John Kiely, whipped in a brilliant cross from the right and Vinny Sullivan, with the aid of the upright, headed past keeper Barry Ryan.
