Cork City 0 - St Patrick's Athletic 2Fan favourite Chris Forrester was the hero for St Patrick's Athletic at a raucous and throbbing Turner's Cross, which saw the visitors win 2-0. The Inchicore side had every incentive to go and win the tie to go top, but Drogheda's win over Derry denied them on the night. Midfield magician, Forrester provided the spark in the 43rd minute with a sweet left-footed drive into the far top corner of Tein Troost's net. The goal was somewhat against the run of play arriving just before the interval, but there could be no argument when Brandon Kavanagh doubled the Super Saints' advantage with a second goal right on 45 minutes. Kavanagh took advantage of Charlie Lyons' headed clearance to the edge of the box making it two goals in three sparkling minutes to end Cork City's 23-match unbeaten home record. In the first of five games in 15 days for Cork – they play again on Monday away to Shamrock Rovers – the home side had the better of the first half action despite a crippling injury list. Five first choice players were out of action and ultimately this took its toll on Tim Clancy's boys. Strikers Ruairi Keating and Seani Maguire are joined by Greg Bolger, Malik Dijksteel and Harry Nevin in the treatment room. Cork had Evan McLaughlin back from injury on the bench but young striker, David Dunne, currently being tracked by French side, Monaco, was not part of the squad. Cork without a win in five continued to take the action to the opposition and mid-way through the opening half, wing-back Bernardo Couto fired into the side-netting as the home team enjoyed the bulk of the possession. Twice in the opening five minutes, Milan Mbeng went close to a lead goal for the Leesiders but the game changed utterly in those three minutes just before the break. Cork carried the game to the opposition on the restart but a trio of chances from Alex Nolan, Darragh Crowley and Couto again were all denied by Pat's keeper, Joseph Anang. © rte.ie
