Kian Leavy Injury Update

St Patrick's Athletic Manager Stephen Kenny has confirmed that Kian Leavy will undergo surgery on injured ankle ligaments tomorrow, and that the 22-year-old midfielder will be out of action for approximately two months.

The Manager has provided this update:

"Up until the injury, Kian was our most impressive player in pre-season training. He scored highest in all of the fitness tests and metrics.

I really feel for Kian, at Reading, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury, and took an extended time to return in the Covid era. In his first game back he broke his tibia in a tackle and then also had a stress fracture in his back that ruled him out for large parts of the 2023 season.

His dribbling, low centre of gravity and close control at speed is exceptional and really exciting, he has a unique style in that regard.

Kian performances last season were good and in this pre-season, he looked like he was going to really push on again to another level.

He scored a hat-trick in a behind closed doors training game and a great individual goal against Bray Wanderers in the Leinster Senior Cup.

I have no doubt that Kian has and will continue to show the mental fortitude required to overcome set backs like this and that he will return stronger again and have a major impact on our season.

He will start his rehab under Sam Rice and our medical team after his operation tomorrow and he'll be back on the pitch in due course."
