Galway United 2 - St Patrick's Athletic 2League leaders, St Patrick's Athletic, let a two-goal lead slip after two moments of brilliance by Galway United's Aaron Bolger salvaged a 2-2 draw for the Tribesmen at Eamonn Deacy Park. On a clear evening on Corribside, it was a comeback story from the home side, which prevented St Pat's from making it three league wins on the bounce. It was an encounter in which Stephen Kenny's side set out to control the game from the get-go, as the Tribesmen searched for opportunities on the counter-attack. Following an offside call on a Kian Leavy goal in the early stages of proceedings, Ryan Edmondson was the St Pat's player to break the deadlock in the 13th minute. Chris Forrester demonstrated neat footwork in the box before laying the ball off to Zack Elbouzedi. The latter delivered a delightful cross onto the head of Edmondson, who made no mistake from close range, as he brought his goal tally to seven goals for the season. The table-toppers continued to look sharp in possession, as the hosts struggled to gain a foothold in midfield and the attacking third. With their possession dominance, the Saints were unable to create further clear-cut opportunities before the break, while United grew into the contest as the half progressed. At the start of the second period, as John Caulfield's side tried to find a way back into the encounter, another Saints goal arrived in the 54th minute. Edmundson flicked a header towards Elbouzedi as the electric winger delivered another key assist, this time onto the boot of Forrester, who volleyed the ball beyond Evan Watts to double the away team's advantage. As St Pat's looked to be in a comfortable position, United managed to grab a lifeline with half an hour to go. From a corner kick, Aaron Bolger was the quickest to react to a breaking ball in the box, and the Wicklow native cannoned a right-footed volley into the corner of the net to get the home support on their feet. Caulfield introduced a number of attacking changes as the Tribesmen began to mount more pressure on the opposition backline. After a glorious late opportunity fell the way of Bolger, it was the same man who was not to be denied twice when he struck a very late equaliser in the 94th minute. Bolger once again broke onto a breaking ball, this time outside the box, and he unleashed a powerful low effort beyond Joseph Anang to earn the Tribesmen an important point. © rte.ie
